Progress, so far...
| So, how is the dream progressing? |

October 2007 - Engine and auto
transmission swapped for a rebuilt 3.9ltr beast with manual gearbox. The trip to Le Mans had convinced me that driving would be a lot more fun with a manual gearbox, so I purchased a replacement 5 speed manual box. I then saw a fully rebuilt V8 complete with gearbox so bought that too - the engine would have to come out anyway to change the transmission so it made sense to do the whole lot in one - that's my excuse anyway. |
|
| June 2007 - Drove to Le Mans for the 24 Hour races (spectating rather than racing). Photo here when I was interviewed for French TV (bottled out and had to do the interview in English - heaven knows what what they finally transmitted in french after translating my replies) |
|
| April 2007 - New pair of exhausts and headers custom made |

Edelbrock 1404 (Webber 500) carburettor
fitted. Also, exhaust system reconfigured as rear silencers had disintegrated causing back pressure and loss of power - goes like a rocket now. |

| The weather has improved so have been able to get out in the sunshine - Brilliant!! The last 14 months have all been worth it |

Passed SVA!!! |
|
| As the MOT appointment
was booked, I was able to drive on the road to the testing station - no-one
specified which route I must take! What a day! But, not without
problems. She Passed the MOT!!! Not so fortunate with the SVA. Pleased that she passed on the major things but failed on a couple of minor ones that have now been sorted out. See full SVA Report. Seen here having the the wheel alignment adjusted. The hood has also been fitted but, personally, I think it spoils the beautiful lines of the vehicle so it will only be used as a last resort to protect the leather seats if caught out in the rain.

The interior is now complete and looking very nice - hand brake gaiter fitted but not in this picture. Rear inner wings also fitted as well as the carpet in boot. The end is in sight but there is still a load more jobs to be done, although the list is getting smaller.

|
| A Rolling Chassis!!!
Just took the beast (that's the Cobra, not my daughter Hannah who's in the
passenger seat) for a little spin. Everything seemed to go OK and nothing
fell off! If any law enforcers are reading this, "the tax is in the post". |
|
ENGINE FIRED UP and RUNNING. Once everything was double checked, I turned to key and the fuel pump filled up the carbs - turned the key to next position and she started after only a couple of turns!!! BIG WHEELS KEEP ON TURNING!! Jaguar gear selector installed - slam it into Drive and the wheels turn. Also note oil cooler connected and temporarily fixed in front of radiator (Click picture for full size image) |

| Rolling Chassis shown
here with all donor vehicle components, viz. brakes and suspension on all
four wheels; master brake cylinder and brake pipes to all wheels plus hand
brake; steering wheel with temporary coupling to steering rack (this will
fixed finally after engine). Not visible in the picture is differential with
rear drive shafts. Wheels and tyres are also fitted but this is just to aid moving the vehicle. |
